Why DJ aka R U A DJ?
Over the years I've been asked why I DJ in
Second Life. Music has always been a big part of my life going back to when I
was 10 and my older brother had a band and they would practice in our basement.
I took up playing the clarinet at the same time and had 7 years of private
lessons. I also play the saxophone, the flute and tinker around on the piano.
I've passed this onto my kids who also play multiple instruments except for my
son... he's strictly a drummer and I love to listen to him play! If my ipod
isn't attached to me then my phone is and I've got my earbuds in and listening
to music. I love Sirius/XM and the variety of stations and recently I've become
addicted to TuneIn Radio. Mostly I listen to
Big Daddy's
80's Club Stream but I also have other clubs streams in there along with
some local AM/FM stations. If you haven't used TuneIn you really should check it
out and you can follow me there and see what I'm listening to.
Ima's TuneIn
Station. Back to DJing... I did my first set in May 2008 and over the
years I have played everything from pop and rock to blues and country, disco and
sock hop and once I did a jazz set! I know people think you just hit the play
button and call yourself a DJ but for myself and many of my friends it goes
deeper than that. We spend hours finding new music, putting together songs that
flow together, we take requests and all the while watch local chat and hopefully
help others to have a good time. Each time I take the stream I think to
myself... there could be someone out there listening who has had a really shitty
day and they have logged into Second Life to escape that for a while and I want
to help them with my music. Yes the tips are nice (we all have tiers to pay or
love to shop) but I don't depend on them. I honestly do DJ for fun. I feel if
you do it for the money then it's just a job and you really should do something
else.
